Thanks to a sponsorship from Google, the Houston Museum of Natural Science was able to close the Museum to the public and invite 2,082 Houston-area students, teachers, and chaperones to a free evening field trip on January 20, 2017.
Google’s generous support provided schools the ability to choose between two Field Trip Packages for a more customized experience. The packages included entry to the Permanent Exhibit Halls, Cockrell Butterfly Center, one special exhibition, and either the Burke Baker Planetarium or Wortham Giant Screen Theatre. The sponsorship also included stipends for bus transportation and allowed us to have thirteen of our amazing Docents available to provide hands-on demonstrations throughout the museum.
The approximately 1,800 students in attendance came from Alief Independent School District (ISD), Channelview ISD, Houston ISD, KIPP Public Schools, Lamar Consolidated ISD, and Spring Branch ISD. Schools, like KIPP Connect, were extremely grateful for the opportunity. One KIPP teacher said, “Thank you for providing this experience for our students AND their families! It was great for them to experience this together.”
HMNS appreciates the chance to offer programs like Google’s Field Trip Days to Title 1 students!
