SENIOR SOCIAL – WIESS ENERGY HALL

Get energized and buzz about the Wiess Energy Hall the most contemporary, comprehensive and technologically advanced exhibition on the science and technology of energy anywhere in the world. Light breakfast will be provided.

CLASS – DIY IRL: ADVENTURES OF LIGHT AND COLOR

6:00 PM · MORAN CONFERENCE HALL

Experiment with color, fluorescence, luminescence and more to learn about light and the science behind it.

HMNS CATALYSTS EVENT: ARCHWAY GALLERY OPENING

6:30 PM · OFFSITE

Mix, mingle and mosaic. Join Archway Gallery for a private insider event for Catalyst members to see the new exhibition There Is Another Garden, featuring new work by Sherry Tseng Hill & mosaics by Nathan Hill. Light bites and wine will be served.

Valet parking is available.

EXCURSION – ROAD TRIP! DIGGING FOR ANCIENT TEXAS FOSSILS

9:00 PM · OFFSITE

Join HMNS paleontologist David Temple on a fossil dig on the banks of the Brazos River where everyone is guaranteed their own fossil! Participants will meet in Bryan, Texas, and caravan a couple of miles to the site. Participants must be in good physical condition and capable of traversing uneven, unpaved, steep and slippery terrain.

Minimum age of participants is 15. Minors under 18 must be accompanied by a participating adult.

EVENT – A BUTTERFLY FLUTTER

10:00 AM · COCKRELL BUTTERFLY CENTER

The stars of the Cockrell Butterfly Center will find even brighter spotlight during A Butterfly Flutter. Our younger guests can enjoy the wonders of the rainforest with added fun. Face-painting, crafts, cookie decorating and a bug hunt are just a few of the activities planned. “Nectar” and “munchies” will be available to keep the whole family a-flutter.

CLASS – ORGANICALLY DELICIOUS: BASIC ORGANIC VEGETABLE GARDENING

9:30 PM · MORAN CONFERENCE HALL

Learn techniques to growing vegetables organically in Houston. Instructor Angela Chandler will teach you how to select a site, build the beds, plant, care and maintain a vegetable garden.

EVENT – DINO DAVE DAY

1:00 PM · MUSEUM GROUNDS

We’re kicking off Reading Awareness Month with Dino Dave Day, a book launch and tribute to Associate Curator of Paleontology David “Dino Dave” Temple. Dino Dave and his Cretaceous crew will be at HMNS for readings and book signings of Big Adventures with Dino Dave. Have a prehistoric adventure of your own with tours of the Morian Hall of Paleontology, dinosaur crafts and educational talks.

Included with admission to the permanent exhibit hall.
