If you’re looking for a laugh today, you’re in the right spot. Everyone knows that kids say the darndest things and now that Summer Camps@HMNS is in full swing there have been quite a few interesting conversations I’ve overheard in the hallways. Here are a few of my favorites….

Kid:“Is it feminist?”

Wildlife intern: “Do you mean venomous?”

“Dad, cockroaches are just misunderstood”

“I’m wearing my three-dollar pants, so I don’t care if I get blood spatters all over them.” – Kid in CSI camp (NOT REAL BLOOD, I PROMISE)

“Did you know that when you cook a snake its legs come out”

“Do tarantulas have to get married before they have babies?”

Outreach presenter:“T-Rex grew lots and lots of teeth throughout its life and would just spit the old ones out when they wiggled loose.”

Kindergartener: “But why didn’t he save them for the tooth fairy?”

“That snake [corn snake] looks like cheese. Colby Jack cheese. I like Colby Jack.”

In a class discussion about food chains and apex predators:

Kid:If you think about it, wouldn’t death be the ultimate apex predator?

Rest of the class:*erupts into “woaaaaaaaahhhhsss”*

While technically not a real thing, the philosophy behind it was quite fun.

While discussing earthquakes, a teacher asked kids what we find when we dig into the earth (looking for answers like dirt, rock, sand) and one girl yelled out, “BONES! We buried a dead squirrel last week!”

“The salamander feels like an uncooked hotdog!”

There are so many more gems that we’ve heard around here. If you‘d like to be part of some of these hilarious conversations with your kid, be sure to join us for one of the many Summer Camps@HMNS. There’s definitely a topic here for everyone, and you’re guaranteed to get a gold mine of stories every day.
